Tiger putt down in big-game hunting

Tiger Woods

TIGER FLAWS
Culled from The Sun

TIGER WOODS has worked so hard on refining his swing on at least three occasions over the years that he seems to have forgotten the most basic principle of golf.

You drive for show, and putt for dough. Or in Woods’ case these days, you putt for ‘Doh!’

Quite simply, the area of Woods’ game that keeps letting him down in the Majors is his inability to get the ball in the hole.

Yet that was the aspect of his game that stood out when he was winning Major championships for fun.

No–one holed pressure putts like Tiger did.

He can still sink them with amazing regularity to win regular events on the US Tour.

But crack the pressure up a notch or two at the Majors, and it seems the hole looks no bigger than a pinhead to the world No 1.

Golf Rose told: Yoda man Star Wars pep talk inspired US Open winner

USING THE FORCE … Justin Rose channelled Yoda to beat Phil Mickelson in Philadelphia
Culled from The Sun

THE Force was with Justin Rose at the US Open — after his sports psychologist gave him a Star Wars-inspired pep talk.

Gio Valente made his pupil watch the legendary scene from The Empire Strikes Back where Jedi master Yoda tells Luke Skywalker about his destiny.

And he then told Rose: “Your destiny this is. A champion you are.”

Valente, who lives near Rose in Orlando, said: “I made Justin watch that scene between Yoda and Luke because I wanted him to know he was ready, that he was finally mature enough to come into his own.”

Ironically, Rose’s playing partner in Sunday’s final round was countryman Luke Donald, who is greeted by Star Wars-style chants of “Luuuuukke”.

And after becoming England’s first Major winner for 17 years, Rose insisted it may be his pal’s turn soon.

He added: “There’s been a very strong crop of English players for some time now. I really hope this has broken the spell and the other English guys can notch up some wins.”

ROUGH PATCH … Rory McIlroy

RORY McILROY admits he has lost his way as his problems pile up ahead of next month’s Open.

The world No 2’s hopes of a morale-boosting victory in the Irish Open nosedived yesterday after he stumbled to a 74 in the first round at Carton House in County Kildare.

That left him eight shots behind Swedish leader Oscar Floren, who fired a six-under-par 66.

And McIlroy is now more worried about missing another cut than claiming a first victory since his eye-popping £156million move to Nike.

Miserable McIlroy said: “I just feel a little lost at the moment.

“I really don’t know what the problem is — I just don’t seem to be firing on all cylinders.

“No aspect of my game is standing out as particularly strong. I just couldn’t get anything going out there.

“Whenever I gave myself chances for birdies I didn’t make them and then I made a couple of stupid bogeys on the par fives.

“I’m trying my hardest to play my best golf but it’s just not good enough at the minute.”

McIlroy’s new Nike driver is causing him problems off the tee — a fact even he acknowledged.

The two-time Major winner added: “It all starts because I’m not driving the ball well enough.

“It feels good on the range and I hit all the shots I want to warming up — but when I get on the course it’s not there.”

18 celebs whose romances were doomed after getting love tattoos

Celebrity tattoos

Ink-credible … celebrity tattoos
By IAN GARLAND
Published: 11 hrs ago (The Sun)

ZAYN Malik has had his girlfriend Perrie Edwards’ mug tattooed on his right bicep.

The One Direction heartthrob was snapped this week sporting the freshly-inked tribute in a tattoo studio in the US.

It’s a serious declaration of love, coming just months after Zayn was caught cheating on the Little Mix lovely with Aussie waitress Courtney Webb.

The 20-year-old clearly thinks his romance with Perrie, 21, is for keeps.

But then so did Angelina Jolie when she got tattoos in honour of exes Timothy Hutton, Jonny Lee Miller AND Billy Bob Thornton.

And Kerry Katona when she got Brian McFadden’s name etched on her BUM….

In fact it’s a cock-up celebs have been making for decades.

Here are EIGHTEEN stars who wish they never went under the needle.

Katie Price

Katie Price

Price of love … Katie is a repeat offender

The model had Peter Andre’s name inked on her wrist during her ill-fated romance with the Aussie star.

When their marriage went south, Katie grew sick of staring at “Pete” every time she chewed her nails… so she had his name crossed out, before covering over it with a rose design.

Never one to learn from her mistakes, KP found herself in the same needle-induced nightmare in 2011 after dating Argentine model Leandro Penna.

The model had Leo and the date they met scrawled on her left ankle.

No word if that sketch survived – but Katie this week claimed her relationship with Leandro was a sham.

What’s worse than finding out your husband is cheating on you?

Finding out your husband’s cheating on you when you’ve got his name tattooed on your neck.

Cheryl Cole was left in this awkward situation after dumping her adulterous footballer spouse Ashley in 2010.

The former Girls Aloud star decided to keep her last name – and the tattoo – after the split.

Finally, last year, she decided it was time to start fresh and get the etching erased.

Eva Longoria

Eva Longoria and Tony Parker

It’s not for-eva … Longoria and ex Tony Parker

The Desperate Housewives actress had basketballer beau Tony Parker’s shirt number scrawled on the back of her neck when they wed in 2007.

Their union lasted just four years – amid rumours the French athlete had strayed.

Last year she started the painful process of having the letters lasered off.

Angelina Jolie

Angelina Jolie

Oh Angie! … actress has had love tatts removed 3 times

How could anyone make the same mistake THREE times?

Ask Angelina Jolie.

The actress had a rune-style “h” etched on her wrist in 1997, to honour actor boyfriend Timothy Hutton.

When they split, she kept the creation, dedicating it to her brother James Haven – before finally getting it removed.

Then came her marriage to British actor Jonny Lee Miller – marked by Japanese letters on her right arm.

Then THEY split and Angie covered the tattoo with a Tennessee Williams quote.

There’s no such thing as “once bitten, twice shy” when you’re Angelina Jolie.

During her marriage to Billy Bob Thornton she went a step further and had his name written on her upper arm.

That has now been replaced by a list of her kids’ names and their birthplaces.

The Aussie singer had to get “Katie” lasered off his ringer finger in 2010 after ending his turbulent marriage to the model.

He later revealed the painful process took six months.

Johnny Depp was so convinced his romance with Winona Ryder would last, he had “Winona forever” written on his upper arm.

Forever ended up being four years – and the pair parted ways in 2003 while filming Tim Burton film Ed Wood.

Depp refused to have the tatt totally taken off. He had something more creative up his sleeve.

Instead, he had two letters removed – leaving him with the words “wino forever”.

Chris Brown

He gets around … Brown and his ‘Rihanna tattoo’

The rapper raised eyebrows when he had a woman’s battered face drawn on his neck – just a few short years after he raised his fists to on-off girlfriend Rihanna.

The tattoo doddle coincided with his short-lived reunion with Rihanna – who he’s now swapped for another ex, model Karrueche Tran.

It’s ironic he’s now back with Tran – last December he had HER name removed from his body after leaving her for the singer.

Pamela Anderson

What’s in a name? … Tommy Lee and Pamela Anderson
The Sun

When they weren’t bonking on a boat, Pammie and Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee were cementing their love for each other with matching tattoos.

Tommy had “Pamela” written on his penis, while she had Tommy etched on her ring finger.

It turned out to be a bad move for the former Baywatch beauty. First she caught hepatitis C from a shared needle – and then the pair split.

In a bid to make the best of a bad situation, Pamela changed “Tommy” to “Mommy” as a tribute to their two sons.

Britney Spears

Brit and dancer ex Kevin Federline had matching red and pink dice drawn on their wrists after marrying in 2004.

And we all know what happened to that relationship…

No ifs and butts … Paris had her bum tattooed

Paris and ex Nick Carter’s matching tattoos really did spell the death of their love affair – they split just THREE WEEKS after having their names branded on each other.

At least Paris picked a discrete spot to have Nick scribbled on her skin – her bum.

But it must have made those trips to the laser centre embarrassing.

Charlie Sheen

Charlie Sheen

A right Charlie … Sheen rushed to have his tatt removed

The actor didn’t waste any time erasing the memory of his marriage to Denise Richards.

He had name removed from his wrist just two days after she filed for divorce – bringing an end to their three-year marriage.

The former Bond Girl kept “Charlie” for another two years – before having it turned into a fairy on her reality TV show.

Colin Farrell

Colin Farrell

Keeping his ink … Colin’s still got his love tatt

He’s only married once – more than 12 years ago – but Colin Farrell still has a reminder of his short-lived union with actress Amelia Warner.

The pair tied the knot in 2001 and had split before the year was out. But he still has “Millie” (her nickname) inked on his ring finger.

He once said: “Yeah. I’d sooner skip laser treatment and all that and just keep it. It’s part of me past. But, you know, if I fall in love and it’s a problem for someone, or I ever do get married again – God forbid – I’ll have a look at getting rid of it.”

Halle Berry

Halle Berry

Berry regretful … Halle calls her tatt the ‘biggest mistake of her life’

Zayn should have had a chat with Halle Berry before rushing to the tattoo parlour.

The actress claims the biggest mistake of her life was getting ex-husband David Justice’s name branded on her bum.

After they split (amid accusations of domestic violence) she had the words covered with a picture of a sunflower – but the thought of her unfortunate etching still grates.

Halle said: “I chose a sunflower because when darkness descends they close up to regenerate. But I really wish I’d never had the tattoo in the first place. Clean, clear skin is always better.”

Kerry Katona

Kerry’s another multiple tattoo offender. And another celebrity who opted for the classy bum branding.

First she had Brian McFadden’s name – accompanied by Winnie the Pooh – designed on her derriere.

After they split, she shacked up with ex-cabbie Mark Croft, and celebrated by having his moniker marked on her back.

In 2010 she underwent expensive laser treatment to have the tattoo taken off

Drew Barrymore

Drew Barrymore

Drew silly girl … actress’s ‘tramp stamp’ went wrong

Back when she was still a Hollywood wildchild, Drew became a pioneer of the tramp stamp when she had boyfriend Jamie Walters’ name inked on her lower back.

Not only did the pair’s relationship fail to last the distance – but the tatt was a botched job, with the colours running together until they were undecipherable.

She eventually got it covered over with an angel holding a cross.

Heidi Klum

Heidi Klum

Can’t Heidi that! … Klum is getting rid of of her ex’s name
Splashm News

Heidi Klum’s marriage to singer Seal was cringe worthy from start to finish.

As well as vomit-inducing annual vow-renewal ceremonies, Heidi had his name written down the inside of her right arm.

This week – a year after she filed for divorce – Heidi announced she’s “in the process of getting her tattoo removed”.

Mel B

Mel B and Eddie Murphy

Tatt’s the end of tat … Mel and Eddie got matching designs

The warning signs were there from the beginning.

But Mel fell so head-over-heels in love with the comedy icon that she had his name tattooed on her body just three days after they met.

“It felt like we had known each other for years,” she said.

So it was a shock for the former Spice Girl when Eddie dumped her on TV and disputed the paternity of their daughter together.

Kirk Norcross

Zayn should take particular heed from tattoo fanatic Kirk Norcross – who also had his girlfriend’s likeness drawn on his body.

Maybe Amy Childs hated the idea of her own face staring back at her, because the romance fizzled out.

But Kirk’s keeping the tattoo and he still hasn’t given up on the idea of winning her back.

He recently said: “I will still love Amy until the day I die – she is literally like the girl version of me. And when it didn’t work out, it broke my heart really… and it wasn’t her fault, it was both of our fault.”

Wouldn’t it be cheaper to just get it lasered off?

SPORTS glamour couple Rory McIlroy and Caroline Wozniacki are on the verge of splitting up, pals feared last night.

Golf hero Rory, 24, is said to be tired of the “clinginess” of his tennis ace lover.

A source said: “He is trying to find a way out of the relationship. It looks as if it’s almost over.”

Both have suffered dramatic collapses in form after getting together in 2011. Danish beauty Caroline, 22, was world number one at the time but has slipped to nine and was dumped out of Wimbledon in the second round last week.

Northern Irishman Rory won the US Open just before they started dating but has struggled this year and failed to even make the cut at this weekend’s Irish Open in Co Kildare.

There have been rumours of a split before. Caroline was asked in March about marriage but said: “I think that question will be for him to answer.”

Last night both their agents said they had not split.

Tragic … medics cover naked couple

A COUPLE are believed to have fallen to their deaths when a window they were having sex against gave way, say reports.

The horrific accident allegedly happened in China when the glass pane shattered.

The tragic man and woman are then understood to have hurtled to their deaths.

Eyewitnesses said the couple both fell to the ground as they clinched on to each other.

A source in China said: “With the two of them holding each other tight, they fell out of the building”.

Shocking photos in China appear to show the couple on the ground under sheets.

Blood is splattered near their bodies on the pavement.

Medical staff and what appear to be police officers can also be seen examining the scene.

The man and woman are thought to have fallen out of an apartment in the city of Wuhan, central China.

Local sites suggested windows in the building were of poor quality.

Jonathan, Amaechi meet in Rivers

culled from punch

President Goodluck Jonathan with Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, at Port Harcourt International Airport on Saturday.

BARELY 72 hours after the Rivers State Governor and the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, was barred from exchanging  pleasantries with President Goodluck Jonathan, the duo met at the Port Harcourt International Airport on Saturday and embraced each other.

Jonathan met and shook hands with Amaechi at the airport before departing for Abuja after visiting his hometown in Otuoke, Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.

Though no public speech was made, both Jonathan and the governor, exchanged pleasantries before the President eventually departed for the nation’s capital.

Neither the Rivers State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mrs. Ibim Semenitari nor the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr. David Iyofor, picked their calls. They did not also respond to the text messages sent to them asking for the details of the discussion between the duo

But the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati, told one of our correspondents that   Amaechi was at the airport to see the President off according to protocol, adding that there was nothing unusual about it.

Abati said protocol required that when the President is in a state, the governor or his deputy should receive him and see him off.

He added that since the President passes through Port Harcourt anytime he is going to Bayelsa State or returning from there, it was expected that Amaechi or his deputy should receive or see him off.

When asked whether the development was an indication that the face-off between the President and the governor was over, the presidential spokesman said there was no rift between the two of them in the first place.

He said, “Governor Amaechi was at the airport to see the President off. There is nothing unusual about that.

“It is the duty of a state governor to receive and see the President off when he visits a state. In the event that the governor is not available, the deputy governor carries out the task. This is part of protocol.

“In this case, anytime the President is visiting Bayelsa State, he passes through Port Harcourt and the governor receives or sees him off. There is no rift between the President and the governor in the first place.”

The governor has been having a running battle with the President in what many believe is part of the build up to the 2015 elections.

The frosty relationship between Amaechi and Jonathan climaxed when the Rivers governor contested and won the Nigeria Governors’ Forum election despite a warning from the Peoples Democratic Party that Amaechi should not contest the election.

The National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party later suspended Amaechi from the party citing a petition written by the Rivers State chapter of the party against the governor for violating some sections of the party’s constitution.

The Joint Task Force in Yobe said on Saturday that it had smashed a Boko haram group in Fune, recovering two vehicles, arms, ammunition and other materials.

JTF spokesman, Lt. Lazarus Eli, said this in Damaturu while displaying the items to newsmen, News Agency of Nigeria reports.

He explained that the terrorists attacked a JTF checkpoint in Fune on Friday and took away a police vehicle conveying some items to Borno State.

“The JTF pursued and engaged them in a gunfight and they were overpowered. We recovered the stolen vehicle as well as a similar one used by the group.

“Other items recovered include one Ak47 rifle, three Rocket Propelled Gun bombs, three RPG chargers, one riot gun and 485 rounds of ammunition,” Eli said.

Lazarus also said 42 police jackets, 44 police helmets, six AK47 rifle magazines, 80 fragmentation blades and illicit drugs were recovered.

He said some of the suspects fled with gunshots and appealed to the public to report anyone found with gun wounds to security operatives.

Meanwhile, the people of the state have appealed to the federal authorities to lift the suspension of telephone services, to enable them provide security operatives with useful and timely information.

Damaturu residents claimed that the attack on a college two weeks ago would have been averted, if there was telephone service.

“People noticed suspicious movements on that fateful day just about the commencement of the curfew, but one could not move out.

“Also, there was no telephone network for us to report to the security,” a source stated.

Jonathan not a weak president —Allison-Madueke

External factors and local impediments tried to scuttle President Goodluck Jonathan’s ambition of repositioning the country in the first two years of his administration, a book edited by the Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Allison-Madueke has stated.

In the book titled, “Goodluck Ebele Jonathan: Champion of Women,” the minister also said Jonathan was neither a weak nor indecisive president.

It said the psyche of Nigerians who held that view had been affected by long years of military rule that made them believe that leaders must be aggressive.

It added that with his consuming passion for the progress of the country, there was no doubt that the President was leading Nigeria to a good place.

The book was presented on Wednesday at a mid-term presidential dinner held as part of activities marking the second anniversary of Jonathan’s administration.

Although the book did not identify the “external factors” that compounded the administration’s woes, it listed the activities of members of the violent Islamic sect, Boko Haram, in the North and kidnappers in the South as some of the local impediments.

It added that it was impossible for the Federal Government to separate the external factors from local impediments.

According to the book, technological advancements including the use of mobile phones contributed to the problems.

It stated that the first two years of Jonathan in the saddle of affairs were full of threatening challenges capable of making the President lose focus.

The book said however, the challenges made the President more inspired to steer the ship of the nation to a safe haven.

The book read, “The first two years of President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan’s administration were met with tough, even threatening challenges.

“The Boko Haram insurgence in the North and the spate of callous kidnappings in the South could quite easily have shifted all focus away from the President’s clearly outlined transformation agenda.

“Ironically, however, the President seems even more inspired to steer the ship of the state to a safe point where the dignity of every Nigerian is preserved; a point where our right to contribute to productive decision-making is assured, where our balance of payment is no longer in deficit, where we do not consume more than we produce, where every Nigerian can boast a healthy standard of living, where our women take centre stage in the whole process of social and economic transformation.

“While the local impediments to the President’s ambitions are unrelenting, external factors have compounded the matter further, making it impossible to separate one from the other.

“We now live in a world where a click of your mobile phone takes you to the global marketplace. This may seem adventurous and exciting to some, but the impact on the local market is incalculable.”

While reeling out some of the achievements of the administration in two years, the book stated that Jonathan was determined to fulfil all his electoral promises in the lifespan of his administration.

It described the President as an honourable man who had always been reluctant to say in public what he did not plan to put into practice.

According to the book, Jonathan is already on course to deliver in excess of his commitments across all sectors of the economy.
